What We Teach

Four areas of traditional Turkish craft with modern adaptations for home learning

Marbling Art (Ebru)

The ancient technique of creating fluid patterns on paper and fabric. We focus on water-based methods that don't require toxic chemicals—perfect for home studios or group workshops.

Pottery & Ceramics

Hand-building and wheel throwing techniques. From pinch pots to functional vessels, we teach both beginner-friendly methods and intermediate skills for those serious about the craft.

Islamic Calligraphy

Turkish script techniques including Ottoman and modern styles. We demystify the pen angles, ink consistency, and muscle memory needed to create beautiful letterforms.

DIY Home Projects

Affordable, space-efficient craft projects you can do at home. No fancy studio needed—just creativity, basic materials, and clear step-by-step guidance to get started.

How It Started

My journey into Turkish crafts began early. At age 12, I started apprenticing under master artisan Mehmet Özdemir in Istanbul's Sultanahmet district, learning ebru marbling from someone who'd been doing it for 40 years. That's where I understood that these aren't just techniques—they're conversations between the maker and the material.

After completing my Fine Arts Education degree at Marmara University in 2008, I didn't want to teach in traditional school settings. Instead, I pursued specialized certifications from the Turkish Handicrafts Association in Ankara and started teaching through community centers. The goal was always to reach people who might never step foot in a museum but could absolutely create something beautiful in their own homes.

Over 16 years, I've managed my own studio, 'Sanat Atölyesi,' and taught at three major cultural centers in Istanbul. But here's the thing—I'm more interested in accessibility than exclusivity. That's why I've published 23 DIY craft guides and now work with zoriven Solutions Ltd to create educational content that meets people where they are: at home, with limited budgets, curious about their own cultural heritage.

Why This Matters

Traditional crafts aren't museum pieces—they're living practices anyone can learn

Demystify, Don't Gatekeep

Complex techniques often feel intimidating. We break them into manageable steps. Whether it's understanding why certain water temperatures matter in marbling or how hand position affects your calligraphy stroke, every detail gets explained clearly.

Accessibility First

You don't need an expensive studio or fancy imported materials. Most projects we teach can happen at home with affordable supplies. That's intentional. Creativity shouldn't be gatekept by budget or space limitations.

Connect to Heritage

These aren't random hobbies—they're part of Turkish cultural heritage spanning centuries. When you learn marbling or calligraphy, you're connecting to something deeper than just a craft skill. That context matters.

Practice Over Perfection

We're not training people for competitions. We're teaching skills that bring joy, build confidence, and create something tangible. If your first pot isn't perfect or your marbling looks experimental—that's exactly right.
